The Art of Scan Art
As of a few days ago, I had no idea what scan art, or scanography, was. It sounded as though it was some sort of doctor’s equipment, but I learned that it is a type of photography that uses a printer and it’s scanner. By placing objects on your scanner and simply scanning to your computer, you can create a whole new kind of art.
Here are a few images I made recently while trying it out. This first one is with strips of white paper that I changed the color of in post editing.
Here’s another one with sprinkles and bubble wrap.
It was so interesting to create these images. I really had to think backwards, what it would look like from below. I’m excited to try some new scan art ideas soon.

Cassie your photos look so cool! I love the highlight of the rose made of paper. It adds a lot of dept. Here is the link to my scanography post. https://flowerbirdcreative.com/scanography/
I love the simplicity of scanography but also the sense of mystery and eeriness that you get with the background. Have you seen Aubree’s post on Scanography? http://www.aubreeogaard.com/creative-composition-and-scanography/
I also love I love Richard Dawson’s scanography work. Check it out. https://www.scannography.org/artists/Dawson-Richard.html
